New Orleans Public Housing Defenders Face Terror Charges

A trial is about to open in New Orleans of housing activists Jamie "Bork" Laughner and Joy Kohler, who face charges of criminal trespass and possession of a "fake explosive device" following civil disobedience arrests at public housing projects slated for demolition. Laughner was also charged under a Louisiana anti-terrorism law passed as the state's answer to the federal PATRIOT Act.

Top officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offered a report that deferred most of the responsibility for post-disaster housing and plans to a ghost entity.

Bowers: racism, housing plague New Orleans

DELPHOS — According a press release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, it provided more than $9 billion in grants to the Gulf Coast as of January. The agency funded approximately 72,000 projects in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. However, one Delphos resident says portions of New Orleans display a lack of progress and institutional racism, in his opinion.
